Mediation & Counselling Australia

The role of a mediator is to help both parties discuss issues, consider options and work out agreements that suit them both. Mediators do not give advise so it is important to seek legal advise before going to mediation.

What is Mediation?

Family Mediation Dispute Resolution (FDR) also known as mediation is a way of resolving disputes between people in conflict with the help of a qualified mediator.
This is a neutral process where families who are separated are able to mediate with each other to resolve disputes.
The mediation is facilitated by a Family Mediator Dispute Resolution Practitioner (FDRP) who is a neutral third party.

Why attend Mediation?

In most cases, parties are required to attempt to resolve their dispute through the FDR process prior to having their matter heard through the family law court. FDR is usually cheaper, quicker and less stressful than going to court.

FDR can help families to resolve disputes and parenting matters and assist with parenting plans.

It allows each party to have a say and make decisions about their family.

Why use FDR at Mediation & Counselling Australia

  • All our FDRP’s maintain their registration with the Attorney General’s Department.
  • The mediator is neutral even if you were not the party to make the initial contact.
  • The process is structured and clear.
  • We promote positive parenting and family relationships with the focus being on children.
